Een beetje chauvinisme is bets geoorloofd in deze onzeker tijden van rtbf-reportages allerhande. Lang geleden berichtte ik over Storm Thorgerson's cover artwork. Wat blijkt. Een van zijn mooiste covers in my humble opinion, die voor funeral for a friend, is een bewerking van een werk van margritte!

Ik moet dringend eens verder kijken dan pijpen en bolhoeden. 

Discobelle is een zweedse muziek blog waar vooral de betere dansplaten op worden besproken. Je kan er al eens een ontdekkingske doen. Site heeft ook heel wat bezoekers, uit heel veel uiteenlopende landen.
Anderhalve week geleden stuurde ik een mixje op. Ze gingen het online zetten als ze het goed vonden.

Dit nummer bezit die stuwende beat die het hart vormt van het fijne album Lunatico. Perfect als achtergrondmuziek, maar dan met een zomers sfeertje. This is the pulsing beat of the heart of the fine album Lunatico. Perfect as backgroundmusic, but with a summer feeling.

Thom Yorke - The Eraser (MS)

Ik ben een grote Radiohead-fan. En ik heb het best wel voor hun evolutie met hun laatste platen. En toen ik de soloplaat van Thom hoorde wist ik meteen van waar die meer elektronische touch kwam. As a big Radiohead-fan I was very pleased with the evolution with their latest albums. When I heard Thom's solo-album I directly knew from where that electronic touch came.

Sinds the White Stripes kan ik het rauwe van enkel drum en gitaar best pruimen. Zet er de stem van deze frontvrouw bij en je krijgt iets wonderbaarlijks. Ze ziet er enkel niet uit, maar wat een uitstraling. Since the White Stripes I like the raw sound of only guitar and drum. Just add the voice of this frontwoman and you get something magnificent. She just doesn't look, but what a charisma.

Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad of the Broken Seas (MS)
track: Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Honey Child, What Can I Do?

Deze zangeres ziet er dan weer wel uit. Mark Lanegan is de passiefste zanger die ik ooit gezien heb, maar wat een stem! En samen zorgt dit voor een juweeltje van een plaat. Isobell is very handsome. Mark Lanegan is the most passive singer I've ever seen. But what a voice! Mixed together that makes a jewel album.

De enige belgische groep in mijn top. Met een EP dan nog. Maar wat voor 1. Een conceptplaat. 6 nummers, 33minuten luisterplezier. Pure emotie en screams. Think: At the Drive-in, the Mars Volta maar even goed Radiohead. Ik ben siked! The only belgian band in my top. And that with an EP! But what for. A conceptalbum. 6 Tracks, 33 minutes for your pleasure. Pure emotion and screams. Think At the Drive-In, the Mars Volta but even Radiohead! I am siked!

Thursday - City by the Light Divided (MS)
track: Thursday - Counting 5-4-3-2-1

Opnieuw een hardere plaat. Had meerdere luisterbeurten nodig, maar stilaan ontdek je dat het allemaal pareltjes zijn. Jet another harder album. Needed more listenings, but gradually one discovers all the beauties.

The Whitest Boy Alive - Dreams (MS)

Erlend Oye was ooit de stem van Royksopp en ook zijn Kings of Convenience waren top. Wat meer dansbaar nu en burning is een wereldtrack. Nestelt zich vast en zeker in je hoofd. Erlend Oye once was the voice for Royksopp and also his Kings of Convenience were top. More danceable now and Burning is a world-class track. For sure stays in the head.

Charlotte Gainsbourg - 5:55 (MS)
track: Charlotte Gainsbourg - Night-Time Intermission

Het enige liedje dat ik van haar kende was Lemon Incest, samen met haar vader. Maar samen met de mannen van Air slaagde ze er in een erg eigen album bijeen te schrijven. The only song I knew of Charlotte was Lemon Incest together with her father. Now together with the guys from Air she made an album with a very own sound.

Zangeres Karin Dreijer zong ook reeds met Royksopp (What Else Is There?) The Knife is dancemuziek. Maar nieuwe dan. Atmosferisch. Glaciale schoonheid. Karin Dreijer also sang with Royksopp (What Else Is There?) The Knife is dance music. But the new one. Atmospheric. Glacial Beauty.

Sophia - Technology Won't Save Us (MS)
track: Sophia - Birds

De plaat waar ik dit jaar het meest van genoten heb. Niet zomaar opnieuw die melancholische Sophia plaat maar een divers full album. Soms rockend als the God Machine, soms ingetogen. Maar niet een song is dezelfde. Vol emotie. This is the album I enjoyed the most this year. It wasn't just another melancholic, but a fully divers Sophia album. Sometimes rocking like the God Machine, sometimes timide. Not one song that's a kind of copy of another. Full of emotion.
